Lima is the starting point for a wonderful adventure in Peru. This cosmopolitan city is reminiscent of Miami, Florida, but with geography similar to Monterey, California. The city is perched on top of the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, with an awareness of earthquakes and tsunamis. This is a truly international city with culture, entertainment, dining and shopping. Lima can be expensive, but insiders can find good value in the Miraflores neighborhood where safe, comfortable tourist-class hotels give you easy access to the arts district, Larco Mar shopping and all tourist conveniences. The Lima International airport is only 20 minutes from Miraflores, so it is an excellent place to spend a few days at the beginning or end of your Peruvian vacation.
